Christian Stickers

18 December, 2008

Greetings in the Name of Our LORD Jesus Christ,

Why is it that we Christians have this need to put Christian labels or stickers on everything? This sticker mania often leads to bad results. For instance, starting on the lighter side, why do we put fishes on our cars? And most of the ones I see have "Jesus" written inside the fish. Do we think this is a marvelous testimony or something? On the contrary, no one is a perfect driver and even the most courteous driver is often thought to be a "jerk" because they let too many people in, they drive too slow, they don't run the rude bicycle rider over, they stop for little old ladies who shouldn't have been in the street anyway. So, we have an unbeliever following us in our Jesus fish car who thinks, "Those Christians are such jerks." So much for that marvelous testimony! And I think most Christians no longer realize that the fish was the secret symbol of the Early Church when it was being persecuted and killed by either un-regenerated Jews or the Roman Empire. Well, there goes that secret! And just now, when it would have been so handy with a federal executive office that is going to unleash the powers of Hell formerly held back by either a conservative Congress or conservative President.

And why are we so eager to say that so-and-so celebrity is a Christian? Or to tout "famous" Christians? How about Jim and Tammi Bakker? They were famous. Why with their PTL Club, we were cool and had all the things the world had: an amusement park, a vacation spot, and famous celebrities on TV! Now Jim is a former prison inmate, Tammi is dead, and their son is covered in tattoos from head to foot. With a Christian sticker no less! Hey, Jimmie Jr. is obviously a Christian -- see that tattooed cross?

And why do rock bands, who give themselves a "Christian" sticker, always say, "We don't want the devil to have all the good music." I can't tell you how many times I've heard a lead singer in a "Christian" rock band say that! Excuse me? Since when did the Devil have ANYTHING good? That's like saying, "We can't let Muslim terrorists have all the good leaders." Since when would we want a tyrant telling us what to think, who to vote for, and that we can't go to church. Oh, and all the money we made by working hard at the factory? We need to give half of it away to people who didn't want to work and are therefore poor. Wait a second! Based on the recent presidential election, that must be EXACTLY what we want. And guess who the "most liberal senator in Congress" wants to swear him in at the inauguration? Rick Warren! Yep. Pro-abortion (including partial birth abortion where the doctor pulls the baby all the way out of its mother EXCEPT for the head [because it's not a legal birth until the whole baby is out; get it?] and then jams a pair of scissors into the back of the baby's head, inserts a suction tube to suck its brains out, and then finishes delivering a now dead baby), pro-homosexual, anti-free speech, anti-free enterprise, anti-gun ownership, Barak Hussein Obama asked Rick Warren to swear him in. If that doesn't validate what I've been reporting to all of you, nothing will!

And why, when bad things happen in a church-related setting, do we want to put a Christian sticker on it? In the military, we used to call this "justi-lying." For instance, when I had to fire someone in a church-related setting for stealing, one of my peers (a minister) released a message saying that the employee "was seeking other opportunities for fulfillment." Or something a lot like that. Sure they were -- AFTER they got fired for dishonesty! This is called covering up, lying, being fake. This is neither a good testimony to the Christians involved, baby or no, and especially not to a lost and dying world around us. No wonder so many use the excuse (which God will nonetheless NOT accept), "Those Christians are hypocrites."

And most importantly, why do we want to put a Christian sticker on someone just because they say they are? And nowadays, especially if they have written a book and either "Jesus" or "God" or "prayer" is in the title? After it became cool to be a Christian (real Christians may have been loved and loving; but, they have never been cool to an unrepentant world), Christian book sellers sprung up like so many weeds in a flower garden. One of the more well known in our circles is "Christian Book Distributors." Once upon a time, my wife and I relied upon them as a great resource for supplemental reading to our Bibles. Not so any more folks! CBD is half heathen now; but, the titles sure give all their books an awesome Christian sticker. Many Christians, babies or nominal ones, full of non-discernment, have lapped up books by Rick Warren, Bill Hybels, Joel Osteen, Robert Schuler, Richard Foster, Brennan Manning, Dan Kimball, Earl Creps, Doug Pagitt, Leonard Sweet, Tony Jones, Brian McLaren, Tony Campolo, and many more thinking they were reading helpful Christian books. After all, the book distributor had a Christian sticker right in their name! And all those authors give themselves a Christian sticker. They wouldn't lie would they?

Come on church! Wake up! What do you think all this globally bad weather, globally bad natural disasters, and globally bad economy are all about? God is warning us, just like He tried to warn the children of Israel, about our pending judgment! And the question is, are we going to deserve it or not? We need to repent of worshipping at our idolatrous altar of Christian stickers. We need to get back to basics. Our prayer of repentance ought to sound something like this: "God, please forgive me for failing to read your Word as often as I could. And even more, please forgive me for not believing what I read (e.g., the Creation account, the definition of marriage, the message of your Prophets, including the reason Jesus came, the awfulness of sin, and the eternity of Hell). Help me from now on to be a DOER of Your Holy Word and not just a Hearer. Help me to be obedient! In Jesus' Name, Amen."

We are in the last days! Jesus told his disciples, "Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars" Matthew 24:4b-6a

I don't want to be part of the MANY who are deceived. Do you?

Brother Mike
