Leo Tolstoy on Truth

"I know that most men, including those at ease with the problems of the greatest complexity, can seldom accept even the simplest and most obvious truth if it be such as would oblige them to admit the falsity of conclusions which they have delighted in explaining to colleagues, which they have proudly taught to others, and which they have woven, thread by thread, into the fabric of their lives."
Leo Tolstoy (emphasis added)

Note from Brother Mike: this is another way to describe the sin of pride. Pride which prevents the proud men in the highest ranks of our Fellowship from repenting the evil that they have been working amongst themselves. I hope their pride is only “wood, hay and stubble” in the Great Judgment and not a one-way ticket to Hell. I pray the same prayer for all the many souls they have influenced along the way. Souls for which they will be held responsible.
