Who Employed Earl at the National Seminary?

February 25, 2008

Greetings in the Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ,

I must admit that the former chairman of the divinity doctoral studies department at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary—one Earl Creps—has taken quite a beating on this web site. Of course, he deserved it because he is a heretic. Earl was a wolf amongst sheep. But, Earl was not in charge at AGTS. So, the real question is, “Who hired Earl?” The answer to that question points the final finger of blame for the heresies that Earl was teaching to our doctor of divinity candidates at AGTS. Did Tom Trask hire Earl? Did Dr. George Wood? Did Dr. Byron Klaus, current president of AGTS [last time I checked], hire Earl? And really, although the person who hired Earl should be held responsible for his erroneous teachings, the President of the school and the Board of Administration (BOA) present when Earl departed should be held responsible for allowing him to teach there.

For instance, the syllabus in Earl’s department cited his main texts as books by Brian MacLaren and Leonard Sweet! These are two of the main proponents of New Age influence into evangelical circles! They are both New Age (as in non-Biblical) to the hilt! Why was this allowed to be so? Do Dr. Klaus and the AGTS BOA endorse such beliefs? Are these texts still being taught even though Earl is gone? I hope not!

The issue with Earl Creps being on staff is only the tip of the iceberg apparently. There is also the story (repeated to me by several witnesses) of homosexuality being protected at AGTS. You have got to be kidding me! There was even cited an actual homosexual encounter between AGTS student and their lover right outside of the AGTS building just before the student went into class! If this is so, how could this be happening at an Assemblies of God institution that is supposed to be dedicated to opening the deepest truths of the Bible to our highest educated ministry hopefuls? Is someone in the administration protecting a relative? Is someone high in the AGTS administration actually a homosexual? OR, worst of all, have we decided to abandon God’s Word and endorse the sin of homosexuality?

Make no mistake, no one loves the poor folks who are trapped in the sin of homosexuality more than I do (with the possible exception of those who have already been redeemed from that sin by the Blood of the Lamb—as Jesus said to Simon the Pharisee in Luke Chapter 7, “They who have been forgiven much, love much [Mike’s consolidation].”) In fact, those who endorse this sin are the haters of homosexuals because they make them comfortable in their sin while simultaneously condemning them to an eternity separated from the God who loves them.

Love is precisely why this behavior at AGTS cannot be condoned! It apparently gets worse! Why were students told they would be kicked out of AGTS if they brought this up? Was the homosexual student the child of the president, a member of the BOA, or one of the professors? Or, was the student known by the administration and protected? If protected, on what basis? Certainly NOT the Bible that AGTS is supposed to be teaching!

Finally, does the president of AGTS believe in New Age and homosexuality? If so, he ought to be fired for being a heretic just like Earl! If he doesn’t, then he should fire all professors who do. If he doesn’t know what his professors believe and are teaching, it is his responsibility to find out! And if he won’t, then he ought to be fired for dereliction of duty! The really sad thing is that there is probably more than one Earl Creps teaching at AGTS. Weed them out! Hire Bible-believing professors whose creed is that the Bible is the inerrant, infallible Word of our Creator God from the first verse of Genesis to the last verse in Revelations! In fact, this should be the primary interview question when considering a professorial candidate for AGTS! Or any A/G school for that matter!

We must repent of this great wickedness that was allowed—and perhaps still is—to go on at our theological seminary. If we are not Bible teachers, then we are not distinctively Pentecostal (the original argument for opening our own seminary). If we are not Pentecostal, then we might as well close the doors. There are many other seminaries—who don’t believe the Bible anymore either—to which we can send our ministerial candidates. Suitable (but damnable) substitutes abound. Think how much money our headquarters could save by closing the doors of AGTS! It has always run in the red anyway. After all, that was one of the big reasons that Tom Trask and Bob What’s-His-Name (chairman of the “study” to merge Springfield A/G schools) gave to close Central Bible College: it was losing money [in fact, it had recently begun to run in the black]!

Repent and make Bible-based changes or close the doors to AGTS!

Brother Mike
