2008 Voting Guide

October 7, 2008

Voting Guidance to the Saints in Jesus Christ,

Just as this web site has been focused on leadership and institutional positions of our A/G fellowship, and based on the same emphasis in the Bible, votes should be based on institutional and leadership moral positions first and then, having passed that filter, on personalities second. For example, if the Democratic Party endorses abortion and homosexuality (it does), then a Christian should vote for a party other than the Democratic Party. If they decide to vote Republican because the Republican Party stands for life and marriage-is-between-one-man-and-one-woman (they do), then they should examine the stance of the individual Republicans running for office. If an individual Republican supports abortion and homosexual rights (some do), then the Christian should do their best to make sure that politician is either voted out of office or kept from office in the first place.

God judged the nation of Israel based on their leadership or lack thereof. Read the books of Judges, Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles. In the New Testament, Paul ascribed many responsibilities to those who sought the office of a bishop or a deacon. Read his letters to Timothy. Luke recorded the high qualifications required for the first seven deacons in Acts 6:3. God requires a great deal of leaders!

Given that the Democratic Party endorses both homosexuality and abortion on demand, it is a sin for a Christian to vote for a Democrat. “To him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” James 4:17

That leaves the Republican Party as the only viable party (at present) for Christians in America because—of the two major parties--it is the only party whose platform endorses life and morality (including marriage being between a man and woman as created and described by God Himself in Genesis One and Two). And now that John McCain selected Sarah Palin as his running mate, I can vote for his ticket in good conscience. Otherwise, I was going to sit this election out for the first time in my adult life. And let God deliver us into the hands of our enemies as part of His coming judgment on America (for the nearly 50 million babies we’ve allowed to be murdered and the wrongs that we have called right). One more powerful illustration of our long-suffering, patient, and merciful God.

But wait, the presidential vote is far from the only vote for the Christian! We are all going to have plenty of opportunities to vote for Federal legislators in the House and Senate. Here is a specific reason why voting for a Democrat is a sin: failure to vote for Republican senators and representatives means that a Democratic controlled Congress will dictate who our Federal judges will be including the Supreme Court. Given the Democratic party’s moral positions, this means more abortions and more special legal rights for acts considered against the law only a few short years ago—it was called sodomy. Remember? It’s still against God’s law! James 4:17! We will also be voting for state legislators and judges. James 4:17! Now more than ever, America needs legislative houses controlled by the party that refuses to endorse homosexuality and the murder of unborn children. The Republican Party. I have never said that the Republican Party is perfect or the path to Heaven. I never will for it is made up of sinful men. What I said was that the Republican Party takes a moral stand where the Democratic Party does not. The Democratic Party will prostitute itself to any stand as long as it garners them votes. Just watch Barack Hussein Obama flip flop on issues like his failed predecessor John Kerry did. And like Al Gore did. They base their positions on the latest public poll; otherwise, they have no conscience. Political whores, each one of them!

And here is the bottom line for the preachers in the Assemblies of God. Because of the American preacher’s love of the tax exempt status, I wonder whether they are preaching Biblical truth or not? Is preaching so as not to lose one’s tax exempt status serving Mammon more than serving God? Matt 6:24 says, “No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” Preachers that arrange their sermons so that they don’t lose their tax exempt status are NOT serving God. They are serving mammon. I have not heard an A/G preacher help their flock of sheep decide for whom the Bible-based vote should be cast since I was a boy. And why? Because the federal government has said, “Thou shalt not preach about politics and tell thy congregation for whom they ought to vote or elst thou wilt lose thy tax exempt status.” And we all know that God is not strong enough to overcome the Federal government taking some of our salary if we get caught preaching the truth. Is this failure to trust in God? I think it is. Is this lack of faith in God? I think it is. Is God pleased? Hebrews 11:6 would say that He is not.

And please dear pastor, if you decide to take a stand now, don’t just haul off and say, “Flock, vote for candidate so and so or you are in sin.” If it is a sin, and some votes are, YOU need to understand WHY. And then you need to be able to EXPLAIN to your sheep why. And always using the Bible as the foundation for your explanation! Remember, no Christian should ever need to watch a debate, or see pictures of the candidate, or know what kind of car they drive, or how much money they are worth (or not worth), or know what sex they are to decide how they are going to vote. Their vote should be based first on what the candidate stands for. And if they belong to the Democratic Party in America, they are stating by their membership that they endorse abortion and legal rights for Biblically immoral people. Knowing the above, the Christian would decide to vote Republican. However, there are some Republicans who are for abortion and homosexual rights. Those Republicans should be eliminated from candidacy at the primary elections!

Understand who it is you’re voting for and then pray about it a lot. But understand that God will not hear prayers about voting for someone who voluntarily maintains membership in a party that endorses immorality and the murder of innocent children. These are listed in the Bible as abominations and God says that He is not a man that He should change His mind. See Malachi 3:6.

And finally shepherds, God will not hold you guiltless for allowing your sheep to wander into cesspools of sin. Pray. Fast. Preach against bad political parties. And teach them to vote Republican if the candidate passes the moral stand against abortion and homosexuality!

One final NOTE for the next election: there are at least two parties who call themselves “independent” and both of their platforms appear to be wholly based on the Bible. Look them up on the web (the American Independent Party and the Independent American Party). Oh for an uprising of God’s people in prayer that one of these parties would become a viable (capable of electing a president of the United States) political party in America!

Crying Out for God’s Mercy instead of His Judgment,

Brother Mike
