An Open letter to CBC Students
May 14, 2007
Dear Students of Central Bible College,
If you wanted to destroy a Christian denomination, how would you do it? I’ll tell you how I think Satan would: he’d try to attack it from within. Make the tree rotten on the inside and you don’t have to cut it down; it will fall of its own weight. Convince the knights to kill the king, and you don’t have to attack the strong castle, the knights will open the gate, let down the draw bridge and invite you in! Mark 3:24 says, “And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.”
How does this apply to you? I think you realize already; but, I’ll expand just in case. The mission of CBC for its entire history has been “to train ministers and missionaries.” And what have we been training you with? The answer is in your school’s name: the Bible. God’s revealed Word to us. For all the 2000 plus years of Christendom, the Bible has been under attack. Why? Because Satan realizes that if Christians don’t believe their own Book, then their religion becomes dead and useless just like all the rest. The Bible becomes myths and fairy tales instead of God’s blueprint for a successful walk with Him leading to everlasting life with Him in Heaven. And even worse, if the shepherds don’t believe their own Book, then they’ll lead their entire flock astray. In other words, if Satan can get you off track, he realizes that he could use you to lead hundreds, maybe even thousands straight to Hell along with you.
Today, there are two major ways that Satan is trying to rot the Assemblies of God (and all other Bible believing denominations) from within: 1) Challenge the authority of the Bible as God’s infallible, inerrant Word, and 2) Challenge the biblical idea that there is only one true religion. If Satan can be successful in the first instance, the second attack becomes rather easy. So, let’s address the first attack first.
Right now, in Assemblies of God universities and churches, the authority of the Bible is being challenged right from the very first chapter of the very first book: the creation account in Genesis. It is now fashionable in Christian higher education and big church circles [and necessary, might I add, in order to have one’s science department accredited—and all Christian higher education authorities know that accreditation will benefit you much more than belief in the whole Bible] to say that “Yes, God created everything; but, it all took a very long time.” In other words, God didn’t know what He meant when He said in Hebrew (later interpreted into English by the best Hebrew scholars that King James could find) that He created all that is in six literal days. If you believe this, then you believe that dying occurred for millions of years before Adam existed. This makes the biblical statement by both the writer of Genesis and the Apostle Paul--that Adam’s sin brought death into the world--a lie. If this is a lie, then Jesus’ death on the Cross to save us from that sin was not necessary. If that is so, then the Gospel becomes unnecessary and a lie as well. Finally, if other things evolved from God’s original creation, then John Chapter One is a lie too. For it says regarding Jesus Christ (the Word), “All things were made by Him. Without Him was not anything made that was made.” If Genesis One and John One are both lies, then why should we believe the rest of the Bible?
I could spend hours proving to anyone with “ears to hear” that any bow towards the great god evolution is the current version of “the world is flat.” Further, that the only true science is dictated by God and therefore, the only things that pass the tests of true science are founded in the Creation account. Hundreds of years ago, the world’s leading scientists swore that the world was flat and the Catholic church bought it. Hook, line and sinker. In fact, they jailed and persecuted many who said otherwise. Why has the church always had this need to be “cool” with the world? Don’t we realize that when we try to compromise with the world that they mock us behind our backs? We’re viewed as traitors to our own Book! And we end up being fools in the end?
Since this article won’t hold hours of arguments, I’m going to boil the issue down to one statement: the real issue is whether you, as a future minister or missionary, believe the Bible or not. Logically, you must believe the entire account or throw the whole thing out. If God was powerful enough to inspire WHAT was in the Bible, then He was also powerful enough to inspire HOW MUCH was in the Bible. Try to list the exceptions to the Ten Commandments. Try to list the exceptions to the commands to husbands and wives in Ephesians Five. Name me one place in the Bible where half-heartedness is listed as a virtue. If we can’t be successful there, then why would we think that God Himself would inspire a book that took dozens of writers 1500 years to assemble and then not ensure that it was accurate, cohesive and bomb-proof?
So, if I’m Satan, I try to get one or two professors hired on at CBC, full time or part time, that don’t believe the whole Bible. Then, as the first authority figures after your parents, and most with an impressive set of degrees and titles (which most of your parents didn’t have—therefore the professors must obviously be smarter than your parents), they cast doubt into your mind about the authenticity of God’s Word. Bam! I’ve got you. Without the full, two-edged sword power of God’s Word behind your ministry, you become nothing more than a doubting feather merchant. Then, in order to succeed, you’ll have to write a best selling book and tickle your flock’s ears instead of preaching the need for redemption and repentance.
If you do have a professor in one of your classes that isn’t teaching God’s Word, then I’d encourage you to do the proper thing and take this issue to the Dean. Have dates and times and witnesses (the Bible says to let a thing be established with two or three witnesses as a minimum) handy and ask the Dean to have the professor replaced. The Bible says in I Corinthians 5 and Galations 5 that “a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.” One of your professors has probably already shared that leaven is the biblical picture of sin.
Regarding the second internal attack, Satan is way deep in Christian circles as we speak. Rather famous, highly visible “Christians” are subtly undermining the idea that there is only one way to God. See my web site article entitled "Just a Little Dog Poop in the Brownies" for more information. Suffice it to say, one of the most prominent New Age (old Hinduism) proponents of our time has said, “The age of a single savior is over.” This same man has been quoted as saying that “God is everywhere and in everything.” [Why does Rick Warren use a nearly identical New Age statement on page 88 of his best selling book? And why does Rev. Warren encourage the use of breath prayers like New Agers use when they’re going into a trance?] Another New Ager (who doesn’t believe that Jesus died for our sins) wrote a book titled, “Lead Like Jesus.” Future ministers and missionaries of the Assemblies of God, this type of word substitution by New Agers, using Christian-sounding terms, is precisely how Satan is going to have the “elect” be deceived! This is how Satan is going to rot us from the inside out! You need to know God’s Word and believe it cover to cover, or you will become part of the problem! These are the last days. Jesus is coming soon. Please do not allow the hallowed halls of your bible college to become the original tumor for the cancer of unbelief in our fellowship.
Put on the whole armor of God. Touch not the unclean thing!
Your Fellow Laborer for the Gospel,
Brother Mike
